Colors and designs of the plaids used for kilts conveyed no specific meaning until the 18th Century.  Great  Kilts were originally pleated on the floor before being belted around the waist. This contemporary kilt does not have the extra tail associated with the Great Kilt. We’ve made this attractive kilt easier for you to put on by sewing in the pleats. Made of acrylic wool. Choose S(28"-30"), M(32"-34"), L(36"-39") or XL(42"-44").

Colors and designs of the plaids used for early kilts conveyed no specific meaning until the 18th Century. At one point in time, the higher classes showed off their means with the number of extra colors their kilts displayed, and Clan affiliation was established according to the specific paid worn. This method of communicating the wearer's place in the social structure soon grew out of fashion and folks began wearing whatever they wanted.  Great Kilts were originally pleated on the floor before being belted around the waist, with a long tail of the material thrown over the shoulder and pinned to the shirt or jacket.

We've made this attractive kilt easier for you to put on by sewing in the pleats. This contemporary kilt does not have the extra tail associated with the Great Kilt. Looks great on lads and lasses alike. Two plaid choices available: red/green or camel/navy. The early kilt is available in the following sizes: S(28"-30"), M(32"-34"), L(36"-39"), XL(42"-44").
