Flintlocks:- The Clan Trading Co. is a reseller of "Re-enactment Quality"  Black Powder (aka. Muzzle loading) Pistols and Muskets.  Reenactment quality means that these products are fully functioning firearms, usable for re-enactment purposes. It also means that there may be minor variances in the stock shape, or the inlays. These products may have a few cosmetic imperfections to the metal furnishings, barrel, etc... or small imperfections in the wood stocks. To us this is part of the beauty of these pieces. Each looks as though it have seen a little bit of use. These products are all handmade* (see below), and as such, each is as unique as it's owner.

While we are experienced Black Powder Monkeys, We are not gunsmiths and do not pretend to be. Our importer does have a gunsmith on staff. All pistols and Muskets are thoroughly checked  for mechanical soundness before shipping.  You can rest assured that these  Muzzle loaders are fully functioning Pistols and Muskets.

These Pistols and Muskets  come with their vent holes  drilled and are ready to use.

YOU MUST BE 21YEARS OF AGE TO PLACE AN ORDER AND YOUR "SHIP TO" ADDRESS MUST BE WITHIN THE USA.  OR YOUR ORDER WILL BE CANCELED.

Springs and Frizzens wear are included in the guarantee.  Frizzens wear out today just as they did in the 18th century. The sparks you see when snapping a flintlock are little bits of the Frizzen being scraped away by the flint. If the case hardening wears through send it back and it will  be hardened again. If there is a problem, communication with us is the way to fix it and keep it from happening again.

While most of our customers  just shoot blank  loads during reenactment events. The barrels are made of D.O.M. steel just like the "big names" manufacturers. The breech plugs are threaded and tight. These flintlocks can be used to hunt  or to target shoot as well. Using a reasonable load is expected of you, though is beyond our control. Black powder only!!! An owner's manual comes with each gun.

Exactly who  the manufacturer is, is proprietary information. Our Importer has most of the flintlocks made in India by a third generation manufacturer who has been in the gun business since 1952.

There are pros and cons to guns made in India. There is a town in the Western part of the country that is packed full of gun making shops, some good and some bad.  There are a lot of Indian built guns that are low quality junk, and we don't sell them. Through trial and error our importer  has found a company who is willing to work with them to produce reproduction flintlocks that fit the time periods we reenact here. 1600's- 1800's
Our goal is to provide historically accurate weapons and gear to the  Pirate and Living History communities.

 *Pros:
With the exception of the barrel, all steel parts are hand forged for the ultimate in period correct construction. This makes for some of the strongest locks available. The investment cast parts available elsewhere are not only not historically accurate, but are also prone to casting flaws. Hand-forging eliminates these problems.

Since the manufacturing techniques are still "old world" instead of "high tech", production runs are smaller, generally 20-25 pieces at a time. This allows smaller numbers of unique patterns to be built at a reasonable cost. This isn't possible in the "high tech" world of CNC manufacturing where large numbers of a pattern need to be made to make it cost effective.
Cast brass parts are generally made the old fashioned way with attention paid to historical accuracy, and not manufacturing efficiency. In many cases, molds for brass furniture are made directly from original pieces.

*Cons:
Walnut stock blanks are not available in India at anything like a reasonable price. The stocks on these are made of teak (the Indians call teak and other similar woods "rosewood"). These are pretty woods with prominent grain, but are slightly heavier than walnut.  The other downside to teak is that it is difficult to work with unless your tools are very sharp.

Interchangeability. Since the parts  of these Flintlocks are hand made, they don't always interchange. Replacement parts need to be fitted. The good news is that because of the manufacturing techniques, there is seldom a reason to replace a part.

Shipping:

We ship our muzzle loading pistols and muskets via UPS Ground.( Only within the USA. No International Sales or shipments).

Shipping time frame depends on a number of things, eg.  current availability from our importer, current status of the piece, has it already had it's mechanical inspection. To ship to the the West Coast usually will deliver in about a week, to the East Coast, it tends to be just over two week.
A few of these Muzzle Loaders  are so popular that there is a waiting list of up to 7 months.

We do not have a "shipping department", remember that this is a family run business and there are often projects on the bench that are ahead of yours.  Hats, furniture, etc...First come, first serve, no whining, fighting or cutting in line! And no "Rush Service".

We believe that we have accurately and thoroughly portrayed our Muzzle loading Products.

If you have questions that have not been answered here, PLEASE EMAIL your questions before placing an order, so that we can reply. Placing an order constitutes acceptance of our product description and terms of doing Business together.

Returns:

At our discretion, we may authorize a return. Call for an Return Authorization Number, and if approved, Send the product back  UNUSED and UNALTERED for a refund less shipping and  20% restocking fee.

Unused means just that. If you have fired the gun, even once, it is now "used" and cannot be resold as "New",  And we are less inclined to issue a Return Authorization.

We guarantee the locks against breakage under normal operating conditions.

"Normal operating conditions" means not rusted or modified.  If there is a problem with a lock, send it to us and we will take care of it.

Springs and frizzen wear are included in the guarantee. To date our importer has had a grand total of five broken springs. Frizzens wear out today just as they did in the 18th century. The sparks you see when snapping a flintlock are little bits of frizzen being scraped away by the flint. If the case hardening wears through send it back and it will  be rehardened If there is a problem, communication with us is the way to fix it and keep it from happening again.

YOU MUST BE 21 YEARS OF AGE TO ORDER FLINTLOCKS AND RESIDE WITHIN THE USA.
